Kylian Mbappé recently addressed the media reports from Sweden that he was the subject of a rape investigation, expressing his disbelief and surprise at the situation. The Real Madrid star spoke about the case publicly for the first time in an interview on French TV station Canal Plus.
In October, several Swedish media outlets reported that Mbappé was under investigation for rape following a visit to Stockholm during his time off from playing for Madrid and France. However, Mbappé's legal team promptly dismissed these reports as false.
During the interview, Mbappé shared his astonishment at the allegations, stating, 'I was surprised and I still am surprised. These are things that come into your life like that, you can’t see them coming. It’s just incomprehension. I don't think it weighed on me in the sense that I have never considered myself involved.'
Despite the reports, Mbappé mentioned that he has not been contacted by authorities and would be willing to cooperate if summoned. He stated, 'I would go to Sweden if ever I were summoned, but I haven't received anything, no summons, nothing. The Swedish government has not said anything, so I’m not concerned.'
When the initial reports surfaced in October, Swedish authorities confirmed an investigation into a suspected rape at a Stockholm hotel without naming any suspects. A prosecutor later informed Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that the investigation is ongoing, although no further details were provided.
As of now, the situation remains unresolved, with Mbappé maintaining his stance of not being involved in the alleged incident. The case continues to be monitored by authorities as they work to gather more information.
