Kylian Mbappe next club may have changed as Liverpool put on Nicolo Barella alert

Premier League clubs are likely to spend big this summer ahead of another year of thrilling football.

Manchester City led the way on all fronts last season, holding off a spirited Arsenal side in the process, though more teams will expect to be in the mix this time around.

Liverpool will certainly be among the clubs looking to make up ground on Pep Guardiola's side and took action early in the transfer window, recruiting Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for a fee of around £35million.

Further players are expected to follow the Argentine through the Anfield doors, with midfield considered a priority position by the club. The Reds' rivals will soon begin adding to their teams, too, with the latest rumours concerning their business listed below.

Manchester City

Manchester City are 'on the brink' of completing a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, ESPN have suggested. This move is expected to be worth £34.2m and will see the Croatian become one of many to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

City are currently in talks with Ilkay Gundogan over a new contract, though risk losing the German for free unless a deal can be struck. Gundogan featured on the Sky Blues' released list published by the Premier League yesterday afternoon, though there remains a chance the German could yet commit to Guardiola's side.

Manchester United

Manchester United will reportedly be offered the chance to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe this summer should Qatari-backed Sheikh Jassim takeover bid at Old Trafford prove successful.

Sheikh Jassim has emerged as the frontrunner to replace the Glazers at Old Trafford and, should this deal go through, United will then find themselves in pole position to sign Mbappe. That's the verdict of El Pais, who make clear PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi would favour this over selling the Frenchman to Real Madrid.

Arsenal

The Gunners have seen an opening offer for Chelsea's Kai Havertz rejected but are preparing a second bid, according to the Telegraph. Chelsea are understood to value the German at £70m, a valuation Arsenal have failed to meet. The report adds Havertz will be sold 'for the right price' and that personal terms are 'likely to be a formality.

Chelsea

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson, who has a release clause worth £29.8m at the Spanish club. Jackson is believed to have 'committed' to the Londoners, with Mauricio Pochettino's side now planning to negotiate a deal with Villarreal.

Not done there, the Athletic have added Liverpool targets Manu Kone and Romeo Lavia are also being considered by Chelsea as possible additions to their playing squad.

Newcastle

Newcastle could face competition from Liverpool in the race to recruit Inter midfielder, Nicolo Barella. The Telegraph recently reported the Toon Army were 'closing in' on a £50m agreement, though Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated a deal at this price would be 'almost possible'.

Insisting that Newcastle are not the only club eyeing the 26-year-old, Romano added the Reds have 'always been following' Barella and are monitoring the situation.
