Kylian Mbappe's mum issues strong response over claims star has 'agreement in principle'

Kylian Mbappe's mother has denied reports that her son has agreed a two-year contract extension in principle with Paris Saint-Germain, which would have been a sensational snub to Real Madrid.

Fayza Lamari, who handles most of Mbappe's business off the pitch, released a statement in light of reports from Le Parisien that stated that the France international had turned down the chance to move to Real Madrid to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes.

She said: "There is no agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain or any other club. Discussions around Kylian's future continue in great serenity to allow him to make the best choice, in the respect of all the parties."

A report from Le Parisien stated that Mbappe had agreed in principle to extend his contract at the Parc des Princes by two years, with an option for another season. That is despite the fact that the forward had long thought to have had his heart set on a switch to the Bernabeu, having stated that they were his dream club.

The 23-year-old's contract had been set to expire at the end of the season while speculation over his future has been rampant throughout the year. Talk of a Real switch revved up last summer when they launched a late bid for his services.

However, a lack of progress over a deal from all parties gave PSG confidence that they could tie down their star man to a new deal. According to Le Parisien, the contract would see Mbappe earn £42.5million (€50m) a year, as well as a mouthwatering £85m (€100m) signing-on bonus.

The finances involved simply blow Real Madrid out of the water over a contract potentially worth €400m.

The contract will also see Mbappe solely own his image rights, which emerged as a major negotiation point between all parties. The Frenchman is one of the most-recognised athletes in the world and has numerous deals with other brands, including with EA as the cover star of FIFA.

If the former Monaco man does put pen to paper on the new deal, that would be a huge blow for Los Blancos - who had felt confident that Mbappe would make the move in the summer with many outlets in Spain insisting that it was a done deal. The news that he will pen an extension will not go down well at the Bernabeu.

Real president Florentino Perez is a huge fan of the World Cup winner while the club have plenty of plans in place to snap up free agents. Paul Pogba and Antonio Rudiger are two others out of contract this summer that have been heavily linked with a move to Madrid.

But the news that Mbappe will turn down the chance to sign for the Spanish champions will come as a huge shock to the club. It had emerged in January that the forward had given his word to the club that he would make the move.
