Kylian Mbappe confirms double Liverpool transfer talks as full PSG and Real Madrid interview emerges

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has confirmed that he held transfer talks with Liverpool before deciding to stay at the French club this summer.

Mbappe signed a new three-year deal with the French club at the weekend after snubbing Real Madrid to stay in Paris in what became one of the biggest transfer sagas in recent memory. Los Blancos had long-courted Mbappe over the past two years and saw numerous bids, the largest said to be worth €200m, rejected last summer. Madrid were confident that a deal would be agreed and reports broke last week that he had even agreed personal terms at the club. Liverpool had also been strongly linked with Mbappe and the forward has revealed that he did consider a move to Anfield, before deciding to u-turn and remain at PSG.

"We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit," Mbappe told The Telegraph. The French international added that Liverpool actually had a stronger chance of signing him when he decided to leave Monaco before he joined PSG in 2017 aged 18. The French club signed him initially on loan before a €145m plus €35m in add ons permanent transfer a year later.

Mbappe hasn't been afraid to show his admiration for Liverpool or Jurgen Klopp and the football they play and it does feel as if the Reds would be the English club he would sign for if he was ever to move to the Premier League.

Mbappe said: "I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her! It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

The Frenchman added on his latest transfer saga: “Of course, it was between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the end.

“Everybody knows I wanted to leave for Real Madrid last year and I think it was a good choice to leave last year. But now it’s different because I was a free agent.

“I was a free agent and it was important to give back to my country. If I had left I would have left as a great player but there is a sentimental part. I don’t think my chapter is closed. Things were not over for me at PSG."
