Kylian Mbappe was seen laughing at Harry Kane after his penalty miss against France.
Kane blazed a late spot-kick high over the bar as England suffered World Cup heartbreak on Saturday night.
The England captain had already beaten his Tottenham team-mate Hugo Lloris once from 12 yards but missed the target with his second as France won 2-1 to reach the semi-finals.
After Kane missed, Mbappe could not hide his delight as France celebrated.
Mbappe was kept relatively quiet by England but his reaction added to a painful night for the Three Lions.
It was cruel on Kane, who had earlier equalled Wayne Rooney’s all-time England goalscoring record with his 53rd international goal.
Had the Spurs striker scored his second penalty he would have overtaken Rooney to become England’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Speaking after the game, England midfielder Jordan Henderson said: “We know how many penalties Harry has scored for us, how many goals he has contributed to even get us here. He will be stronger for this in the future. He is a world-class striker and our captain, he will bounce back.”
France and Mbappe will now face Morocco in the semi-finals after the African side beat Portugal 1-0.
