Kylian Mbappé made history for Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, scoring his 201st goal for the club to become its all-time leading scorer. At just 24 years old, Mbappé’s remarkable achievement came after just 247 appearances in the French capital.
The previous record of 200 goals was held by Uruguay international Edinson Cavani, who starred from the Parisian club from 2013 to ’20. He made 301 appearances for PSG, but saw his record broken by the local hero.
Mbappé scored in the 90th minute to cap off PSG’s comeback win over Nantes on Saturday. In doing so, he added to his already remarkable resume, becoming the top goalscorer for his club in just six seasons.
His 90th minute clincher was his 18th of the season in Ligue 1 in 22 appearances. He’s also added six goals in seven Champions League matches.
After the game, the Paris native expressed his pride over the achievement.
“It’s a privilege to play for Paris Saint-Germain. It’s special to be a PSG player as this is my city.” Mbappé said, via Fabrizio Romano. “I’m here to write history… in France, in the capital, in my country, in my city. It’s beautiful… but I want also collective achievements.”
Thus far into his career, Mbappé has been one of the most successful players on the planet. He’s already won a World Cup, six Ligue 1 titles (including one at Monaco), two Coupe de Ligue titles and various individual achievements.
