Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Christian Kirk, who has played four seasons for the team after getting drafted in the second round in 2018, is scheduled to become a free agent in March.
He had a career season in 2021, snagging 77 passes fro 982 yatrds and five touchdowns. He set career highs in receptions and receiving yards, and he did not miss a game for the first time in his career.
Whether he re-signs with the team or leaves will be determined by a number of them, but one factor will be the status of quarterback Kyler Murray.
ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss caught up with Kirk at a charity event and asked him about mow Murray’s future with the team will affect his own.
“It’ll definitely have a deciding factor,” he said.
Kirk and Murray are close friends. Kirk will certainly want to play for a top quarterback and Murray was that in 2021.
While a recent comment by Kirk’s mother on social media suggests that Kirk wouldn’t want to play with Murray, perhaps that is simply his mom’s opinion and not his own.
Free agency begins in March. The Cardinals can exclusively negotiate a new deal until then.
