Yes, we have more offseason rankings and lists. The latest is a ranking of NFL quarterbacks. CBS Sports’ Will Brinson placed quarterbacks into tiers.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was put into the sixth tier along with names you would associate with being unproven or not so good — Gren Bay’s Jordan Love, Washington’s Sam Howell, Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield and Atlanta’s Desmond Ridder.
It is the tier of “no clue, man.”
In any other year, this is simple defamation. The tier he would normally belong to, based on his career and performance thus far, should be the third tier 3 — “intrigue with question marks.”
Murray is undoubtedly one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league and he has sustained MVP-level play over a stretch in 2020 and half the season in 2021. But he did see many metrics decline last season.
Now, he is coming off ACL surgery and his return to the field is a big question mark. Can he return to the level of play he had before 2022?
Tier 6 should be an insult. But if we are thinking just about the 2023 season, it makes sense.
Murray is a Tier 3 quarterback at minimum but his injury status makes him a Tier 6 for now.
