It finally happened. On Wednesday, with the first practice of the second week of OTAs (organized team activities), quarterback Kyler Murray was present and on the field getting work in.
He, along with other veteran players, did not show up for the first week of voluntary practices last week.
Murray’s absence, though, has appeared to be connected with his contract status, as he seeks a contract extension that will make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.
It didn’t come as a surprise. “I knew that he would be here for this one,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters after practice.
Murray’s arrival Wednesday, though, doesn’t necessarily mean he will be there for the remaining six practice of OTAs before mandatory minicamp.
“You have to show up next time and see,” he joked. “We are day-to-day here.
“We’ve been in constant communication so we’ll just kind of take it one day at a time.”
Kingsbury did like having his starter back, along with other veterans who did not show up for this voluntary part of the offseason last week.
And there is no worry about whether he is doing work on his own.
Kingsbury said that Buddy Morris, the Cardinals’ strength and conditioning coach, has been in contact with Murray’s trainer.
“We knew what he’s been doing, but he looks like he’s been working hard.”
