Kyler Murray passing stats that might surprise you

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has been a lightning rod for criticism since he entered the league. While he has sustained MVP-level play over stretches of two different seasons, some are hellbent on saying he is a bad quarterback.

Statistically, he compares comparably and favorably with two of the Cardinals’ greatest quarterbacks in franchise history — Kurt Warner and Carson Palmer.

Let’s take a look at some of those numbers.

Touchdowns

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Murray has 84 touchdown passes in four seasons. He is closing in on Warner and Palmer.

Warner had 100 touchdown passes with the Cardinals and Palmer had 105.

Murray has played in 54 games while Warner was in 49 and Palmer 48, so the touchdown passes per game are lower, but Murray also has 23 rushing touchdowns, giving him 107 combined touchdowns to Warner’s 101 and Palmer’s 106 (both each only had one rushing score while they played for Arizona).

Touchdown percentage

Michael Chow-Arizona Republic

Murray’s career touchdown pass percentage is 4.3%. That is only 0.5% lower than the 4.8% both Warner and Palmer have.

Interception percentage

Michael Chow-Arizona Republic

Murray throws interceptions at a lower rate than both Palmer and Warner did, even though many believe that Murray is turnover prone.

His career interception percentage is 2.1%.

Palmer’s was 2.6% and Warner’s was 2.8%.

Passer rating

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Murray’s career passer rating of 92.5 is higher than Warner’s 91.9 and Palmer’s 91.1 while with the Cardinals.
