Giants rookie backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta pleaded guilty to a disorderly persons charge and two traffic violations on Tuesday, according to the Hudson County prosecutor's office in New Jersey.
Lauletta was arrested on Oct. 30 for nearly running over a Weehawken police officer during a traffic stop while trying to avoid a traffic buildup on his way to work, the Weehawken Police said.
No sentencing date has been scheduled.
Under the terms of the plea deal, if Lauletta has no other legal or traffic incidents for 12 months, the charges will be dismissed, the Hudson County prosecutor's office said. Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul Depascale presided over the brief court appearance on Tuesday.
The traffic violations Lauletta pleaded guilty to were for disregarding the order of a police officer and making an improper turn on the previous day, according to the Hudson County prosecutor's office. The improper turn infraction was captured on video.
Lauletta appeared in just two games for the Giants this season, throwing five incomplete passes in a blowout win over the Redskins. He also lined up as a receiver for one snap in the regular-season finale against the Cowboys.
The Giants drafted Lauletta in the fourth round from the University of Richmond last spring.
Shortly after his arrest, Lauletta told reporters that the incident was "a terrible representation of who I am and what I stand for." He also called it "a horrible decision that I'll regret for the rest of my life."
