Kyle Lafferty 'to be axed' from Northern Ireland squad amid Kilmarnock investigation into 'sectarian' remarks

Kyle Lafferty to be 'sent home' by Irish FA amid Killie investigation into 'sectarian' comments

KYLE LAFFERTY will reportedly be axed from the Northern Ireland squad amid an investigation into alleged sectarian comments made by the Kilmarnock striker.

Killie confirmed on Thursday morning that they were looking into the matter, with a video circulating online of the 35-year-old supposedly using a discriminatory word.

The clip shows the ex-Rangers and Hearts attacker posing for a photo with what appears to be a Celtic 'fan'.

With the camera rolling in what seems to be a nightspot, the man shouts: "Up the Celts".

Lafferty could be seen walking away from the situation, before turning back, appearing to make a comment.

Now, according to the Belfast Telegraph, Lafferty will be sent home from Ian Baraclough's squad ahead of their two upcoming Nations League fixtures.

They play Kosovo on Saturday, before taking on Greece on Tuesday evening.

The report states that while the investigation into the alleged sectarian remarks is ongoing, Lafferty will not be included in the national team set-up.

It also states that the experienced forward met with Baraclough yesterday.

A statement from Rugby Park reads: "Kilmarnock Football Club are aware of a video circulating online which appears to show a member of our playing staff using language of a sectarian nature.

"The club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour completely unacceptable. The matter will be investigated by the club."

Lafferty is contracted to the Ayrshire outfit until May 2023.
