The Baltimore Ravens hired defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald away fro the University of Michigan ahead of the 2022 season. Macdonald had worked in Baltimore for many years prior to departing for Michigan, but turned the Wolverines’ defense around in the one season he was there before returning to the Ravens.
“I like the duality of it. First off, we have guys upfront who allow us to do a bunch of stuff on the backend, in terms of doing their job correctly. Moving around, everybody doing different things, it doesn’t make us one-dimensional. We have a bunch of guys who can do a lot of different stuff, and it makes it hard on the offense not to know who is doing what on each snap. I feel like everybody has done a good job of buying into that.”
Baltimore safety Kyle Hamilton was a rookie when Macdonald took over the Ravens’ defense, and has grown alongside his coach over the past two seasons. Hamilton praised the scheme that Macdonald runs for his defense, and mentioned how he likes the duality of it as well as the multi-dimensional aspect of it.
