It will be “blackout night ” on Sunday night football when the Baltimore Ravens (1-2) host the undefeated Buffalo Bills (3-0).
The Ravens will, in the words of ’90s rapper Lil’ Kim, “dress in all black like The Omen” for this game.
According to Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton, the marquee matchup provides an opportunity for the Ravens’ defense to prove itself. Bills quarterback Josh Allen is among the NFL’s elite, and Hamilton marveled at his ability to escape pressure and then improvise to make something out of nothing.
“It’s his belief that he’s going to make a play out of nothing,” Hamilton said.
“If somebody misses a block, he can escape out of a sack. He can escape a DB or a D-lineman, and then roll to his left and fire the ball 60 yards downfield on a rope.”
The phrase “arm talent” may be a bit cliche, but Allen has it in spades (another cliche!). Shutting down Allen would make a significant statement for a Ravens secondary that has been highly criticized due to their dubious distinction as the last-ranked pass defense in the league.
“I think this week is a great week to prove ourselves, but it’s also every week in this league,” Hamilton said.
“I think it’s [about] us more so being consistent out here in practice and carrying over to the field with communication, execution [and] all that stuff, which I know we’re more than capable of.”
Sunday night can’t get here fast enough.
