Kyle Fox Rangers takeover price floated as football finance expert values club at £100m

A football finance expert has valued Rangers at £100m, but Kyle Fox thinks she could complete a takeover for £25m.

The American businesswoman announced her intention to buy a controlling 75 per cent stake in the club earlier this year after a meeting with former director Paul Murray. Chairman Douglas Park and his fellow board members have resisted attempts so far, and launched legal action against Fox and company KRF Capital over an alleged potential breach of trademark.

However, the Ibrox club walked away from the case, which reginited Fox’s takeover desire. She said she was keen to “explore opportunities” for investment in the club, with a revised plan to buy 25 per cent stake, which would make her the club’s biggest individual shareholder. Now Kieran Maguire, author of the Price of Football , believes Fox could achieve that for £25million. That’s a quarter of what he values Rangers at, although Fox would still have to convince existing shareholders to sell.

“The asking price was probably in the region of 25p per share, minimum. If someone wanted to acquire all of those, you’d have to offer a premium,” he told Football Insider.

“Rangers’ market value is probably just over £100m at this point. If Fox wants to take control, it’s going to have to be a lucrative and persuasive offer to encourage shareholders to give up their investment in the club. Some of their connections to the club are based on finance and some of it is based on emotion."
