Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is finalizing his front office by hiring a new vice president of football operations.
He’s going back to his roots with the San Francisco 49ers for this hire—back to the days when he was serving as the director of football research and development—to give someone else the same opportunity Cleveland Browns general manager Sashi Brown gave him two years ago.
That individual is former 49ers research and development director Demitrius Washington.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Demitrius join the Vikings front office,” Adofo-Mensah said, via the team’s official website. “He is one of the most uniquely gifted people I have met in my time in the NFL. He is able to learn complex ideas, make them simple, and apply them in all facets of the organization. He has learned from some of the best minds in the game today and he will continue to flourish in his role with Vikings.”
Washington stepped into Adofo-Mensah’s role when the Vikings GM left San Francisco back in 2020. Prior to the promotion, he served as an analyst in the football research and development department alongside Adofo-Mensah.
So his coming to Minnesota is a reunion of sorts between two individuals that know each other very well. Adofo-Mensah used the opportunity he received from Brown to earn a GM role in the NFL.
And now, he’s using it even further to pay it forward by giving another analytical mind the same opportunity.
