Kuwaiti Officials Demand Establishing Emergency Body on Backdrop of Russian-Ukrainian War

Kuwait’s National Assembly held a special session on Monday to discuss the developments of the Russian-Ukrainian war and its regional impacts.

During the session, the lawmakers called for establishing a general emergency, crisis and disaster management body.

They demanded developing and expanding the food storage system and grain silos and providing sufficient quantities of drugs to address any possible radioactive contamination.

Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled al-Sabah highlighted the rapid developments in the Ukrainian war, as well as its political, economic and environmental impacts.

Assembly Speaker Marzouq al-Ghanim said Sheikh Sabah and relevant ministers revealed the government’s preparations in this regard, including oil, food stocks and relief aid, as well as preventive preparations and contingency plans.

Ghanim said the private session, which later became public, was held upon the request of the government and the parliament to discuss the repercussions of the military confrontation between Russia and Ukraine.

The Speaker said Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah entrusted him to urge the MPs to prioritize Kuwait's interest, assume their national responsibility and engage wisely with the developments.

According to Ghanim, the Emir underscored the importance of protecting Kuwait at the political, economic and security levels.
