Kuwait condemned on Wednesday statements by an Iraqi lawmaker, saying they do not reflect the strength of relations between their countries.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Majdi Al-Dhafiri received on Wednesday Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait Al-Manhal Al-Safi to protest the remarks.
They discussed bilateral relations between their countries and the remarks by the Iraqi MP regarding claims about attacks against Iraqi fishermen, reported Kuwait's state news agency (KUNA).
Al-Dhafiri expressed Kuwait's rejection of such statement, saying they do not reflect the deep ties between the countries and the principles of good neighborliness.
He refuted the Iraqi allegations and underscored the highly trusted integrity of the procedures followed by the Kuwaiti Coast Guard.
He praised the continuous cooperation between the Kuwaiti Coast Guard and Iraqi Navy in dealing with the violations of Iraqi fishermen, who sail in Kuwaiti territorial waters.
