Kurt Zouma will not face police probe after footage of him kicking his cat emerges

Footballer Kurt Zouma will not face a police investigation after a video of him kicking his cat emerged, according to reports.

The footage filmed by his brother Yoan has been condemned by his club, West Ham, as well as by animal welfare charity, the RSPCA.

However, Sky Sports reports the Metropolitan Police will not be investigating the incident, which was uploaded to Snapchat.

Therefore, there will be no formal charge for the defender who has since issued a formal apology, according to the Mirror.

Zouma told the Sun: "I want to apologise for my actions. There are no excuses for my behaviour, which I sincerely regret.

“I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video.

"I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.

“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”

West Ham are continuing to deal with the matter internally after releasing a statement in regards to the footage.

It reads: "West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated.

“We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals.”

The RSPCA added: “This is a very upsetting video. It’s never acceptable to kick, hit or slap an animal, for punishment or otherwise.

“We are so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering to us and we would like to reassure people we will always look into and, if necessary, investigate any complaints made to us about animal welfare.”

Zouma had played for West Ham against Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup over the weekend.

The 27-year-old had joined the club from Chelsea over the summer in a deal worth £30m, and has played 14 times for the Hammers.
