Kurt Russell's famous first wife he split from just as his Goldie Hawn romance began

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn are Hollywood royalty, the kind of couple people look at and think, “relationship goals.” But before their iconic love story took off in 1983, there was another chapter in Kurt’s life — one that’s often overlooked, involving his first wife, actress Season Hubley.

Kurt and Season met in 1978 on the set of Elvis, where he played the King himself and she played Priscilla Presley. Their chemistry was instant, and while they initially claimed it wasn’t romantic, things escalated quickly. They were engaged for a year before tying the knot in 1979, and by February 1980, they had welcomed their son, Boston Russell, reported Hello! Magazine.

At the time, they kept their romance low-key. In a 1979 interview with People, Kurt laughed off suggestions that their on-screen partnership led to real-life love. “That’s like asking if two plumbers fell in love because they were working over the same toilet,” he joked. Season added that their differences made things work: “We have so little in common that we can barely argue. I’m a total liberal, and he’s a right-winger. I’m into astrology, and he couldn’t care less.”

Their relationship may have seemed unconventional, but it worked — for a while. In February 1983, they announced their separation, and by May, the divorce was finalised. Not long after, Kurt reconnected with Goldie Hawn on the set of Swing Shift. Goldie, who had just divorced musician Bill Hudson, was also navigating life as a single parent. That same year, Kurt and Goldie began their relationship — and the rest, as they say, is history.

Meanwhile, Season continued acting throughout the ’80s and ’90s. She appeared in films like Escape from New York, Vice Squad, and Total Exposure, but her most consistent role came in the early ’90s when she starred in All My Children for over 150 episodes. Her acting career wrapped up quietly in 1999, and she’s since stepped away from the spotlight entirely.

These days, Season lives a much more private life in Los Angeles and is passionate about animal rescue work. She’s mostly stayed out of the public eye, save for a few appearances with her son Boston over the years. In 1992, she married David Hayball, who worked behind the scenes in film, but they split just two years later.

As for Boston, now 45, he’s managed to maintain strong ties with both sides of his family. He remains close to Kurt and has a warm relationship with his stepmum Goldie, as well as half-siblings Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson, and Wyatt Russell.

While Kurt and Goldie’s love story often steals the headlines, it’s clear that Season Hubley played a meaningful and often forgotten role in the actor’s life — one that shaped the path that followed.
