Kurt Cobain’s Hair Inside Signed ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ On Sale For $20,000

A piece of Kurt Cobain remains are unburied as a box with his hair goes on sale in auction.

Locks of Kurt Cobain’s hair inside a signed “Heart-Shaped Box” are on sale for $20,000 (£16,000 GBP).

The hair was snipped by Cobain’s hairdresser in the early 1990s at the height of Nirvana’s fame.

The hairdresser gifted the lock to her niece, who was a Nirvana fan, on her 18th birthday.

The niece then placed the hair in the heart-shaped box which she had previously acquired from a fellow fan.

Corban signed the box “Krudt” on the lid in pen during Nirvana’s 1993 “In Utero” tour for a female fan who followed the band from concert to concert.

“Kurdt” was a variation of Cobain’s name he frequently used to sign letters, drawings and autographs after it was misspelled as “Kurdt” in a 1988 magazine interview.

“Heart-Shaped Box” was the final Nirvana song to receive a music video before the Cobain’s suicide in April 1994.

“This may be your only chance to own such an intimate piece of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana history. I know only one other lock of Cobain’s hair to have ever been offered for sale” said Mike Hall, CEO of CollectorLabs, the company selling the hair.

“Cobain and Nirvana memorabilia is today hugely rated, hugely desirable and hugely valuable. Just look at Cobain’s smashed guitar that sold for half a million earlier this month,” he said.

The piece of the Nirvana frontman singer’s hair is up for sale as 200 fractions in the form of NFT digital tokens. Each fraction is priced at $100 each, or $20,000 for all 200 fractions. If one person were to buy every NFT available, they would receive the physical box and hair.

However, if multiple people buy the shares, the box will remain in secure storage at CollectorLabs.

“This sale is an exciting option for investment-minded collectors. Cobain’s lock of hair and the signed box has a real asset value of $100,000”Mike Hall added. “Yet you can own it today for just $20,000 or a 200th for just $100.”
