Kristin Scott Thomas 'secretly ties the knot' with Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait

Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, 64, has "secretly married" Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait, according to reports.

The couple, who have been together for five years, allegedly exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony with close family and friends in September.

An insider told The Independent: “They are a perfect match. Both smart, wry and curious as well as devoted to each other.

“Everyone is delighted that they have got married after a wonderful five-year romance.”

The Oscar-winner, who keeps her private life out of the spotlight, previously refused to discuss her relationship during an interview with the Financial Times, saying: "I’m not going to talk about him. I’m talking about me."Micklethwait, formerly editor of The Economist, now leads financial news outlet Bloomberg as editor-in-chief.

Meanwhile, the British star’s 40-year career has seen her both embrace and step away from the film industry.

After major roles in The Horse Whisperer and Random Hearts, she took a break to focus on raising her three children—Hannah, Joseph, and George—whom she shares with ex-husband François Olivennes. The couple divorced in 2005 after 17 years of marriage.

In a rare 2013 interview, she humorously commented on her private life, suggesting she might remain single forever, joking that "all the men will run for the hills" when they see it.

She told the Sunday Telegraph: “It’s incredibly difficult keeping relationships alive when you have a lifestyle like mine. I’m never more than a few weeks in one place.”

The Hollywood star also acknowledged that her career often takes a toll on her personal life, explaining: "If I’ve signed on to do something, then I have to do it properly. So I have to switch off the personal life. I can just about squeeze in a phone call at lunchtime, but anything else I just can’t deal with. "So it’s a bit of an escapism thing, actually. Things complicated at home? Get a job! Go off somewhere else and pretend I’m someone else.”

The Standard has contacted Kristin Scott Thomas’ rep for comment.
