Kristi Noem, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for the Department of Homeland Security, affirmed her commitment to upholding the Constitution during her confirmation hearing. When questioned by Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan about the possibility of sending federal law enforcement officials into a state without coordinating with its governor, Noem emphasized her dedication to following the rules of the country.
Slotkin inquired, 'If the president asks you to send in federal law enforcement to a state without coordination of that governor, would you support that action?' Noem responded by stating, 'Senator, my job, if nominated and sworn in as secretary of homeland security, is to uphold the Constitution and to uphold the rules of this country.'
Slotkin sought clarification, asking, 'So you would push back?' Noem reiterated her stance, saying, 'Yes, that will be the oath and the pledge that I will be making.'
Noem's remarks underscore her commitment to respecting the constitutional framework and adhering to established protocols. Her assertion that she would prioritize upholding the Constitution and following the country's rules reflects her approach to the responsibilities associated with the role of secretary of homeland security.
