Kristaps Porzingis, the 7-foot-2 Latvian center for the Boston Celtics, is facing uncertainty regarding his participation in Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks due to a rare tendon injury in his lower left leg. The injury occurred during the third quarter of Game 2, which the Celtics won to take a 2-0 series lead.

Porzingis, who is listed as day-to-day, expressed his determination to play in the upcoming game but acknowledged that the final decision rests with the medical staff. The injury involves a tear in the tissue that holds tendons in place, distinct from a previous right calf strain that sidelined him for 10 playoff games.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla emphasized the seriousness of the injury and stated that the team would prioritize Porzingis' health and well-being in making the decision about his availability for Game 3. Porzingis, who was seen wearing slides and walking with a slight limp, is undergoing treatment as advised by the medical team.

Despite his eagerness to contribute to the team's success, Porzingis is aware of the importance of following medical advice and not risking further damage. He sustained the current injury after colliding knees with an opponent during the previous game but continued playing before eventually exiting in the third quarter.

In his return to the court during Game 1, Porzingis made a significant impact with 20 points, three blocks, and six rebounds. His presence on the court has been lauded by teammates, with forward Jayson Tatum highlighting his talent and the team's improved performance when he is playing.

Porzingis, a former All-Star and the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, has had a tumultuous career marked by injuries and trades. After stints with the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks, he currently plays for the Celtics, aiming to contribute to their pursuit of an NBA championship.

Reflecting on his time in Dallas, Porzingis expressed gratitude for the warm reception from fans and the organization, despite the challenges he faced during his tenure with the Mavericks. He maintains a positive outlook on his return to Dallas and appreciates the support he received during his time with the team.

As the Celtics prepare for Game 3, the decision regarding Porzingis' availability remains pending, with the medical staff playing a crucial role in determining his participation in the pivotal matchup against his former team.
