Krispy Kreme’s three new Easter doughnut flavours tried and tested

When you're an adult and realise that you can buy and eat Easter eggs any time you want between January and April, the idea loses its sparkle pretty quickly. It’s one of the reasons so many brands are coming up with new, fun creations for the spring holiday.

But if, like me, you’re now totally fed up with Easter chocolate, then Krispy Kreme has got the ultimate solution for your Bank holiday weekend snacks.

The popular doughnut brand has launched three brand new limited edition flavours for Easter, inspired by the iconic signs of spring like little yellow chicks and nests of eggs.

The new releases come just weeks after Krispy Kreme launched their Rolo and Golden Chocolate limited edition doughnuts, which I wished could have stayed on the menu forever.

Seasonal treats like the Easter themed goodies may not serve so well year-round, but make up for it in all the joy they bring for the short time they are available.

The three new doughnuts feature in the Happiness Hatching box, alongside some of the original glazed doughnuts that everyone knows and loves. Personally, while I do enjoy most of Krispy Kreme’s offerings, the OG ring doughnut remains a God-tier baked good, and never fails to satisfy a sweet tooth.

The box contains 12 doughnuts for £15.95, which works out much better value than buying them individually at a concession, and is perfect for sharing on Easter Sunday - or not, I won’t judge.

Adding a pop of colour to the Happiness Hatching box is the Cheeky Chick doughnut, which usually retails at £2.20. It’s filled with a tangy lemon sauce to make your mouth water, dipped in icing and topped with colourful sprinkles. In fact, it almost looks too cute to eat.

That said, lemon drizzle cake is my favourite dessert ever, and that’s exactly what it tastes like, so it got a double thumbs up from me.

The aptly named ‘Happinest’ is a take on Krispy Kreme’s filled doughnuts, which sees the doughnut filled with an indulgent brownie batter, dipped in delicious white chocolate coating and topped with little chocolate eggs. This usually costs £2.45, as the filled doughnuts are more expensive than the rings.

The brownie batter was so thick and gooey, I couldn’t help but wish there was more of it. The mini egg nest on top was the cutest design, and added extra crunch to the texture.

Finally, if you’ve room, that is, there’s the Egg-static - also £2.45 - which is bursting with kreme and a yellow fondant yolk, dripped in decadent chocolate icing and topped with colourful swirls.

The inside of this reminded me of a Cadbury Creme Egg, but better, because Krispy Kreme fillings are just so smooth and light.

The doughnuts are currently on sale and available to pre-order on the Krispy Kreme website, as well as in stores at Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Asda.
