Kris Jenner's living room mixes 3 colors I never thought I'd see together – but the rare combination is shockingly chic and cozy

Kris Jenner.

Imagine a blue, brown, and yellow room. Are you liking what you see? Without context, the combination sounds strange, and even unappealing. However, in Kris Jenner's living room, the three shades complete one another for a stunningly cozy and welcoming scheme.

I spotted the living room colors in the background of a joint Instagram post featuring Kris and Donatella Versace; and the room is just as stylish as the women in it. The cozy sitting space features a chocolate brown velvet sofa adorned with silver and brown cushions, and a taupe curtain over the window. The white coffee table is decorated with large blue and yellow books. Behind Kris and Donatella, a yellow, blue, brown and green painting brings all of the colors together.

Though I never thought I'd see the shades work together, Kris's space proves that it could easily becomes interior designers' favorite color combination for a living room. What makes it work so well? First, the space integrates a combination of textures that make the seemingly discordant colors appear rich and complementary. The sofa is velvet, the cushions are metallic, the walls are matte, and the curtains are silky. All together this feels opulent and warm, like stepping into a welcoming lounge.

Additionally, I love how Kris Jenner uses accessories like her coffee table decor to bring in brighter shades. Rather than combining large swaths of different colors, which might make the combination look clownish, Kris opts instead for small pops of color that make the mixing feel artful. Carefully choosing coffee table books that you love, and a warming candle can help infuse an unexpected color palette with a planned, eclectic energy.

Finally, I believe the rare color combination is so effective in Kris Jenner's living room because she uses a largely neutral living room, aside from the pops of color. The cream walls and white coffee table bring a touch of brightness to the space that creates separation between the more solid blocks of color in the rest of the space.

Unexpected combinations can bring a newfound energy to spaces we've come to love. It's a reminder never to rule out something just because you haven't seen it before.
