Kris Boyd shares why it's 'impossible' for Rangers to win anything this season

Kris Boyd has reiterated why Rangers will struggle to win any silverware this season.

That reason? Their dreadful away form.

Rangers have won just four of their 15 matches on the road in all competitions this season, and it has already proved costly in the league as Celtic lie 13 points ahead at the halfway stage.

They are still in the Scottish Cup and sit within a good chance of progressing out of the Europa League league-phase.

Having said that, Rangers' failure to perform away from home is something that's continued to hamper them throughout the 2024-25 campaign, with Boyd doubling down on the fact there's no positive spin manager Philippe Clement can put on their record.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Rangers striker said: "I think there's no doubt that Rangers can win a game against top opposition like Celtic. We've seen them cause teams in Europe threats, but it's that consistency.

"Away from home, it's been absolutely terrible. There is no getting away from it. Four wins in their last 15 away from home is not good enough for teams down the bottom of the table never mind a huge club like Rangers.

"I mean Ross County hadn't won in over a year away from home and they have the same points now [away from home] as what Rangers have got this season. That shows you how bad the away form has been, and they are going to have to fix it.

"There's another difficult game on Thursday away at Dundee, so there's obviously something mentally because Rangers at home, they can reach the heights. We've seen that against Celtic.

"We can speak about decisions all you want but the facts are that Rangers got themselves ahead again after the penalty decision [vs Hibernian] and couldn't see it out.

"Again, I will understand teams will lose goals from set-plays if it's good movement, you get away from your man. But I mean Rocky Bushiri was just standing in the middle of the six yard box, out jumped Leon King, Liam Kelly was nowhere near it, and the player heads it into the back of the net. It was a really, really poor goal to lose.

"Rangers really, really struggle to deal with physical teams. They are lacking in that physical area."

Asked if failure to defeat Dundee at Dens Park on Thursday night would lead to any Scottish Premiership title ambitions being completely over, Boyd replied: "I think when you go back to last week, it was about pride. It was about the team showing that they can compete with Celtic in a game.

"But over the course and distance of the season, you can't expect to win anything with that poor away record. It's impossible. You can dress it up whatever way you want. Whether it's a young team or injuries or anything else that comes along with it.

"People might say, you are always criticising but the facts are there in front of you. Four wins away from home for Rangers out of a possible 15 is not good enough. It doesn't matter whatever stage it's at in a season, it's not good enough. They need to find a way to rectify that.

"As for the league, that was over before Rangers even beat Celtic last week."
