Kris Boyd kicks Rangers 'fluke' theory into touch as pundit pays former team the ultimate compliment

Beaming Kris Boyd insists nobody can consider Rangers rout of Borussia Dortmund a 'fluke' after they saw off the German giants.

Gio van Bronckhorst's men booked their spot in the last 16 of the Europa League as they cruised to a 6-4 aggregate victory.

It could have been worse had Ryan Kent's goal not been incorrectly ruled out by VAR on the eventing as the Bundesliga heavyweights were put to the sword.

Delighted Boyd couldn't hide his joy as he shut down any suggestion that Rangers hadn't deserved a comprehensive win.

He told Sky Sports: "It's an unbelievable result, not only for Rangers but for Scottish football.

"I said last week would have sent shockwaves through Europe, but to complete the job and knock out Borussia Dortmund is an unbelievable achievement for Rangers.

"It was a bad refereeing decision that stopped Rangers winning on the night, so it's been no fluke.

"6-4 on aggregate, 2-2 on the night, and the second half a lot of credit has got to go to go Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

"The first half Borussia Dortmund were well on top and you felt only one team was going to go through, but he was able to change it at half-time."

Boyd was then asked about journey to the historic victory - with Rangers being in the bottom tier of Scottish football while Dortmund were in the Champions League final in 2013.

He continued: "It shows you how far the football club has come. It's an unbelievable achievement.

"I think it's just a fantastic result for Rangers, and Scottish football, to see these big clubs come to Scotland and be toppled is unbelievable.

"Dortmund were knocked out from the Champions League on goal difference. They have come down to the Europa League and Rangers have knocked them out, so
