Kris Boyd has playfully joked Lionel Messi could have "definitely done it" for Rangers as he laughed off discussions over a move to the English Premier League.
The superstar forward is on the brink of history after leading Argentina to the World Cup final with a win over Croatia, and will look to go a step further on Sunday when the South American side face off against either Morocco or France. Messi will be out of contract in the summer and the gears are turning with pundits on Sky Sports News over a move to England.
Former Southampton David Prutton was quizzed on if he was disappointed that it looks unlikely that Messi will ever play in the English top flight, with reports suggesting he will head for the MLS when his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires this summer. Prutton responded: "It's not one I had thought about until you had just said it, but yeah. I mean, the league has been graced by so many great players."
Boyd cut in: "Do you think he could have done it on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke?" Prutton laughed off the quip stating: "That's a great debate to have."
The Rangers fan favourite was pitched a dream move for the Argentine north of the border: "Could he have done it against Dundee in a Rangers shirt?" Boyd, beaming at the thought, responded: "Oh, he could have done that no problem. No problem."
