Kris Boyd grins through Rangers Champions League pain as Ibrox hero already 'had enough' of worst ever tag

Gutted Kris Boyd has attempted to laugh off the dismal Rangers defeat to Ajax and their pointless Champions League group stage campaign.

Gio van Bronckhorst 's side have failed to take a single point following a 12-year wait to get back among Europe's elite, with Ajax, Napoli and Liverpool all racking up big victories over last season's Europa League finalists. The Dutch champions dealt the final blow at Ibrox when late sub Francisco Conceicao netted the 22nd goal against Rangers in the group stage, leaving them with a whopping -20 goal difference.

It means they now have claimed the worst ever record of any club in the Champions League group stage, surpassing Dinamo Zagreb's dismal record of -19 back in 2012. When informed on Sky Sports News that Rangers were statistically the worst ever Champions League group stage team, Boyd responded: "I know that, you don't need to keep telling me this. I've had enough of it, and I'm going to have to listen to it going forward for a long time.

"I think Rangers fans will just be delighted this campaign is over. It's been a disaster right from the start.

"Rangers built a lot of confidence off the back of the run to the Europa League final, and their confidence has been dented. You've got to use it as a learning curve and try and bounce back to be part of the Champions League year in year out.

"I don't think Ajax are a magnificent team, but they have shown they are way, way better than Rangers. They have been punished for poor, poor defending.

"It's been a disappointing campaign. Rangers have three massive league games before the World Cup that they are going to have to take nine points from."
