Kris Boyd delivers furious Rangers reaction to Alfredo Morelos VAR controversy

Kris Boyd has given his reaction to the VAR controversy in today's Celtic vs Rangers match.

Alfredo Morelos thought he'd scored the opening goal in the first half of the powderkeg derby clash at Parkhead.

However, as he started to celebrate after tapping in at the back post after a Gers corner, Kevin Clancy whistled to chop the goal off.

The striker was adjudged to have fouled Celtic's Alistair Johnston in the build-up.

The decision proved to be a contentious one though, with replays showing that both players were grappling with each other.

The incident was checked by VAR Nick Walsh, and Boyd says it's embarrassing they concurred with the referee.

He fumed on Sky: "It is absolutely embarrassing. See at the end of the day it is a contact sport as James says.

"Alistair Johnston has a grip of Alfredo Morelos, Morelos has a grip of him as well, then all of a sudden he just decides to fall forward because he is caught under the ball.

"That should be a goal. It is embarrassing."

James McFadden gave his views in the studio also: "From that angle, it looks poor. Two arm push on Johnston.

"But you see it there, Johnston has hold of Morelos' shirt.

"Both of them are at it. There is a push from Morelos but he is just trying to free himself.

"For me, I don't think there is enough in it to give that as a foul.

"If it was up the other end the Celtic fans would be of the same opinion.

"This is a sport where there has to be contact and I don't think there is a great deal in it."

During the game, Ally McCoist branded VAR a "laughing stock" in the aftermath of the decision.

Speaking on co-commentary, the pundit said: "Honest to goodness, it is absolutely embarrassing the way we are running VAR. Absolutely embarrassing. We are a laughing stock.

"He gives him a little nudge. Nick, what are you seeing, son."

Andy Walker added: "I think if that's at the other end, everyone is wanting a goal. It's six and half a dozen."
