Kris Boyd concerned by Rangers boss strategy as 'eggs in one basket' approach prompts 'worry'

Kris Boyd fears Rangers have got themselves in a tight situation with their pursuit of Michael Beale.

The QPR manager is the hot favourite to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst as Ibrox boss and few other names have come to the fore. Sean Dyche is another who has been mentioned but the rumours suggest it's Beale who is top of the Light Blues wishlist ahead of their return to Premiership action next month after the World Cup break.

Former striker Boyd, writing in his Scottish Sun column, is concerned by their seemingly laser-focused approach on one man. He believes Rangers should be casting the net far and wide in pursuit of a new gaffer: "From the outside looking in, it appears Rangers have backed themselves into a corner over appointing GVB’s successor. It seems odd they would put all their eggs in one basket. There seems to only ever have been one serious candidate and, for me, that’s a worry.

"It should be vital they find the right man — regardless of how long it takes. Instead, you now have a situation where there is this desperate rush to have the new man in place before the players return to training on Monday.

"The day your new manager starts work is the day you should begin the search for your next manager. Rangers should have a list of possibilities — in the same way you do for players — and an extensive dossier on them.

"That’s the way top clubs should operate. If you don’t have one, then that is just so short-sighted. It’s also far from ideal when you appoint a boss and he brings with him his entire backroom team."
