Kris Boyd baffled by Kemar Roofe's lack of Rangers game time as striker steps up with hat-trick against St Mirren

Kris Boyd has been left "baffled" by Kemar Roofe's lack of starts for Rangers this season, despite his ruthless streak in front of goal.

The striker stepped into the first XI against St Mirren and hit a brilliant hat-trick in the Light Blues' 4-0 win in Paisley.

Roofe's goals were crucial in reducing Celtic's nine-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to six points.

Boyd, who knew a thing or two about grabbing goals, has been confused by Roofe's limited game time under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The manager is likely to use him more frequently now that Alfredo Morelos has been ruled out for the season.

Speaking during Sky Sports' coverage of the game, Boyd said of Roofe: "He will score goals, he gets himself in the right position.

"And why it has taken so long to get him in the starting 11, especially in games like this, is baffling.

"But we are here and he has scored some great goals."
