Kripsy Kreme Belfast: American living in NI shares correct way to pronounce name

With the news that Belfast could be welcoming popular American doughnut and coffee chain Krispy Kreme in the next year, now is the time to learn how it is actually pronounced.

Is it crem? Is it cream? Here in Northern Ireland, we do have a tendency to mispronounce a few things so it is understandable that some people may get confused as the company does not currently have a presence here.

Krispy Kreme is reportedly entering the Northern Irish market as part of its expansion plans across the island of Ireland and fans cannot wait to see their iconic glazed doughnuts hit the shelves in Belfast.

Brittany Breslin, who is originally from Pennsylvania in the US, has lived in Northern Ireland for almost 12 years and has helped clear up any confusion for Belfast Live readers.

She has confirmed that it should be said as Krispy Cream and not Krispy Crem, as she has encountered people saying many times since moving over to study in 2011.

Brittany said: "I have heard Krispy Crem so many times since I moved here - I don't know if it is the K confusing people."

After tweeting about the common mispronunciation she hears from locals, the official Krispy Kreme Twitter account responded suggesting that this mistake is something felt across the UK and not just in NI.

Their bio simply reads "It's pronounced, 'Krispy Cream'... not 'Crem'".

Brittany had welcomed the news of a new doughnut hub opening in Belfast as it will be "a little bit of home" here in Northern Ireland.

"I am looking forward to having the option to grab one - I am not a massive doughnut fiend or anything. I actually grew up in a part of the US where Krispy Kreme isn't really about.

"I spent some time in Washington DC before I came here as I studied there and it would have been popular there," she explained.

Brittany continued: "It obviously shows a bit of confidence in Northern Ireland that such a large global brand is deciding to come here - its nice to hear.

"There is a good bit of excitement because I remember when the Dublin one opened, the American Expat Facebook groups that I am in were saying that they had to stop in on their way back to Northern Ireland from the south."

While it is not confirmed when fans can expect to see Krispy Kreme's iconic glazed doughnuts on shelves in Northern Ireland, a spokesperson for the company said they will keep customers up to date with any news regarding the expansion.
