Koottaan: New Indian restaurant prepares to open in Bristol's Old City

A new Indian restaurant promising healthy, fresh dishes is preparing to open in a historic area of Bristol Old City. Koottaan has moved onto the site of a former barbers on St Nicholas Street next to Seamus O'Donnells and Revolution, with dishes that will focus on the Kerala region.

The food will reflect the Malabari, French and Arabian influence on this region’s cuisine through the generations with a contemporary twist. Operating under the mantra 'Koottaan, feed your soul – with love from Kerala', the team behind the new modern Indian diner leapt at the chance to neighbour St Nicholas Market, renowned for its fusion of global cuisines.

Bethan from the Koottaan team said: "Koottaan is part of a small group of independent restaurants and food businesses, and wherever we are located, being part of the local community is incredibly important to us. We have had our eye on becoming part of the independent foodie hotspot that is St Nicks for a while, having visited many times and received such a warm welcome from the vibrant food businesses and retailers based in the market and surrounding streets.

"We can't wait to open our doors on St Nicholas Street and offer Bristolians very similar hospitality, adding some innovative delights to what is already on offer with some modern twists on traditional Keralan cuisine both for eat in and take away."

Menu and opening times are yet to be revealed, but promise fresh and delicious dishes served alongside Kerala’s world-famous warm welcome. It's set to open in March with the exact date to be announced in due course.

Koottaan is the team's first site in Bristol, who have a wealth of culinary experience in the south west spanning decades. They were the founders of the popular Mint and Mustard and Chai Street restaurants in Cardiff, and for the last few years have been serving up tasty South Indian cuisine at the award-winning Mattancherry restaurants in Cardiff and Taunton. My Local Indian is also part of the collective offering high-quality eat at home meals.
