Konami: Beware of Fake 'Silent Hill f' Playtests As They Could Be Scams Trying to Steal Sensitive Info

Scammers have gone to a whole new level of data theft as Konami has picked up on their actions and has already issued a warning regarding fake playtests for "Silent Hill f."

To date, there are still no official release dates for the upcoming psychological horror game from Konami, with its early access and playtests not yet available officially.

However, bad actors are now taking advantage of the hype and excitement that has been built around the game. With many players anticipating the next installment of the franchise, these scammers are on the move.

Konami: Beware of Fake 'Silent Hill f' Playtests

In both Konami's English and Japanese X accounts, the Japanese gaming company has now issued a warning that asks players to be on the lookout for "Silent Hill f" playtests that are popping up online.

According to Konami, these accounts are "fake" and are not in any way connected or associated with the company despite their seemingly legitimate offers for players.

Konami said that a certain social media account has been claiming that they are running a closed beta test for the company's next horror installment, but the company refutes its claims. The Japanese company did not name-drop the account that was masquerading as them, and they also did not name the platform they are advertising it to.

That being said, Konami asks fans to be on the lookout for these types of accounts that offer illegitimate experiences for its upcoming game and verify their sources first before engaging.

Konami asked that fans await official announcements via their verified Konami account, and the unverified but official Silent Hill profile on X and other media channels where the company shares the latest developments.

Fake Playtests Could Steal Your Sensitive Info

According to Konami, the said account offering the closed beta test for "Silent Hill f" is linked to a website that is asking for personal information, but it did not divulge what kind of data the fake account was requiring.

That being said, this website could ask for one's sensitive information including their names and addresses, as well as their payment information that may be illegally used by the bad actors.

As of writing, there are no reported issues yet regarding the fake playtest currently circulating around social media, with Konami jumping on top of things to make its fans aware of the new scam.

Unfortunately, fake playtests are no longer new in the gaming industry, according to GameRant, as there have been plenty of instances before where scammers took advantage of a title's popularity for their gains.

Only earlier this year, a fake "Elden Ring Nightreign" playtest appeared online and invited many people to join, but the good thing is that its community caught up with the trend.

For now, there are still no official release dates for "Silent Hill f." Moreover, Konami has not announced any information or update regarding a playtest for the game.
