Kol Doctor Murder: Nationwide strike by IMA; Patient services affected

Doctors nationwide stir

New Delhi: Indian Medical Association (IMA) doctors have gone on a nationwide strike, halting non-emergency medical services for a 24-hour period started on Saturday morning.

The strike is called in response to the rape and murder of a resident doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.

Emergency services not affected
However, the IMA said in a statement that "All essential services will be maintained and casualties will be manned."

Routine services closed
Routine OPDs remain closed, and elective surgeries are postponed during the strike.

The decision to strike aims to draw attention to the safety concerns faced by medical professionals and the need for better security measures in healthcare facilities across the country, said IMA. (with Agency inputs)
