Knowle West house severely damaged in fire which saw person and two dogs rescued

Images show the extent of the damage caused to a house in Knowle West in a fire yesterday (August 9). Emergency services were called to the property on Downton Road at around 11.15am.

One person and two dogs had to be rescued from the property, but no injuries were reported in the fire which was found to have an accidental cause. Avon Fire and Rescue service said the casualty was checked out at the scene, but no further treatment was required.

Pictures shared by the fire service today show a heavily damaged property, with several windows missing as well as a roof in need of extensive repairs. The inside of the property looks severely affected as well, with an image of the living room showing it completely burn out and with large parts of the ceiling gone.

The bathroom and one of the bedrooms also look very damaged by the fire. In a statement yesterday, the fire service said: "Crews from Hicks Gate, Southmead, Temple and Bedminster were called to reports of a property fire at 10.54am. On arrival, crews found a fire affecting a two-storey building.

"Crews rescued one adult casualty and two dogs from the scene. With all persons accounted for, and six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, crews used five high pressure hose reels and three 45mm jets to extinguish the fire.

"Also in use were three turntable ladders, thermal imaging cameras and small gear. After a fire investigation, the cause of the incident was determined to have been accidental ignition."

The blaze sent smoke billowing across the sky, with smoke spotted over Pero's Bridge at Bristol harbour. South Western Ambulance Service were also at the scene and people were urged to avoid the area at the time.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 10.59hrs to a fire in the Knowle area. We sent an operations officer.”
