
Washington: Indian-origin Kash Patel was confirmed as new Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) following a close vote in the US Senate, with 51 votes in his favour and 49 votes against him.
Who is Kash Patel?
Patel, a former defence department chief of staff and ex-federal prosecutor, is a staunch supporter of US President Donald Trump.
Patel was born to the family of Gujarati origin in New York. His Family had migrated to the US from East Africa. Kash Patel has a law degree and has worked as a public prosecutor for the state of Florida. Kash Patel later joined the Department of Justice and worked there as a prosecutor.

Kash Patel in Justice Department
Kash Patel handled high-profile international terrorism cases in the Justice Department. Kash Patel's career took a U-turn when he joined the Defense Department as a lawyer. From here he came in contact with US Congress member Devin Nunes, who was then the chairman of the Parliament's Intelligence Committee.
Nunes appointed him as a senior lawyer in anti-terrorism cases. Kash Patel was also a part of the Republican Party's investigation into the FBI investigation into the Russia case during the first term of the Trump government. Kash Patel also played an important role in preparing the Republican Party's manifesto during the presidential election.

Kash Patel, born in New York, came to America from the East African country Tanzania to his parents.
