Knife-wielding man arrested by police in Adelaide's CBD after being tasered

SA Police charged the man with aggravated affray and carrying an offensive weapon. (ABC News)

A knife-wielding man has been tasered and arrested by police in the centre of Adelaide's CBD after, officers say, he refused to drop the weapon.

SA Police said patrols were called to the corner of King William Street and Rundle Mall just after 10:30am following reports a man was armed with a knife.

Police said they found the man on King William Street and told him to drop the knife, but he refused to comply.

Officers tasered the Seaview Downs man, 34, to "safely disarm" him so he could be arrested, police said.

The man was charged with aggravated affray and carrying an offensive weapon, and was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for a mental health assessment.

Police said he would be refused bail once he was deemed fit for custody.
