Knife threat thug captured being knocked down by police car in shocking video is spared jail

A crazed knife thug who tried to stab eight police officers, telling one ‘You’ll die today‘, has been allowed to walk free.

Shocked members of the public, including children, watched as Iain Davie ran amok with two blades in East Kilbride.

He also jumped on the bonnet of a police vehicle and struck the windscreen with one of the knives.

Davie was only arrested after stumbling as he lunged at an officer.

Davie, 38, appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court today (Tuesday).

He admitted assaulting eight police officers by trying to stab them in Murrayhill on September 1.

Davie also admitted brandishing two knives, shouting abuse and threats, and jumping on the bonnet of a police vehicle and damaging two police car windscreens with a knife.

Sheriff Thomas Millar said Davie had been in custody since his arrest in September and a criminal justice social work report suggested he would benefit from supervision in the community.

Davie will be supervised for 18 months and must attend alcohol and drug counselling if required.

He must also carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

Davie also admitted brandishing two kitchen knives in Quebec Drive, East Kilbride, four days before the police incident.

On that occasion officers used pepper spray and managed to disarm him.

Davie was arrested but later released.

Four days later police were called to the Murrayhill area around 6pm.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said Davie was seen with two knives sticking out of his waistband.

He refused to give them up and ran towards two officers, shouting ‘I’ll f...... stab you. F...... come on.’

Davie threw one of the knives towards the police.

Mr Thomson said: “He then jumped on to the bonnet of a police vehicle and struck the windscreen with the knife while telling the driver to get out.

“He tried to open the driver’s door, telling the officer he would die today.

“Davie ran to a grass verge and was surrounded by eight officers.

“He lunged at them in turn as he tried to strike them with the knife. They evaded these blows.

“The officers drew their batons and discharged pepper spray, but this had no effect.

“Then as Davie ran towards an officer he slipped on the grass.

“Another officer drove a vehicle slowly towards him as he got to his feet, made contact and nudged him back to the ground.

“At that point police officers pounced and the accused was arrested.

“No officers were injured during the incident.”
