Knife terror taxi robbery in Kilmarnock street as driver threatened for cash

A taxi driver was subjected to a terrifying knife robbery in Kilmarnock this morning

The driver, 56, picked up a man and a woman at around 10am and was driving the pair on Ardbeg Avenue when the man threatened him with a knife and stole a quantity of cash.

The victim was uninjured by the robbery but has been left badly shaken by the shocking ordeal.

The male suspect is white, between 25 and 35 years of age, around 5 ft 5 inches in height, with a slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured baseball cap, khaki face mask, a dark waterproof jacket and blue jeans.

The male was in the company of a woman who is also white, has fair hair, a slim build and aged between 30 and 40 years old.

Detectives have now launched an investigation into the sickening robbery.

Officers are continuing to gather any relevant CCTV from in and around the area.

Detective Sergeant Peter Sweeney has said that the public may not have realised that a crime was taking place.

DS Sweeney added: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident to think back and consider if they noticed anything.

"The taxi is a blue Skoda and you may have seen it and not realised a crime was taking place. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, I would urge them to contact us. It’s imperative we trace these people.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1052 of October 8, 2022.
