A knife carrier has been jailed again after a disturbance outside a Wishaw bowling club.
Connor Reilly was arrested only because his partner complained to the police about the couple’s treatment at the premises.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Reilly, 28, produced a knife in a taxi during an altercation with three men.
He admitted possession of an offensive weapon at Houldsworth Bowling Club while on bail on February 12.
The court heard that Reilly and his partner went to the club around 11pm to collect two young children who had been attending a family party.
Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said: “They were refused entry and a disturbance took place. CCTV shows Reilly being punched by a man who was barring him entry.
“He and his partner were ushered to a nearby taxi. An angry exchange was ongoing and Reilly was seen to produce a small knife and point it in the direction of the other men.
“The door was then closed and the taxi driven off.
“Reilly’s partner phoned the police to complain that the children had not been returned to her and might be in the care of intoxicated parties.
“Police investigated that aspect of it but were also made aware of the taxi incident and Reilly was arrested.”
Defence agent Rowan Myles said Reilly, of Shotts, has been stabbed and slashed in the past and suffers from paranoia as a result.
The brief added: “He has had heroin and Valium addictions. He recognises he needs help.”
Sheriff Andrew McIntyre jailed Reilly for 10 months, telling him: “This is your third conviction for possession of a knife.
“You have been given every opportunity from the criminal justice system to address your offending and addiction issues.
“Sentencing is not only about rehabilitation but also protecting the public from the grave dangers of knife crime. There must be a deterrent to you and others.”
