Saints Next Head Coach: Kliff Kingsbury Pulls Out Of Race

Washington Commanders Kliff Kingsbury will not seek a head coaching opportunity with the New Orleans Saints.

Kliff Kingsbury Will Remain In Washington As OC

Per Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, Kingsbury will remain with Washington as the Commanders’ offensive coordinator.

Kingsbury had interest from multiple teams in their head coaching vacancies, including the New Orleans Saints. However, Kingsbury has removed his name from head coaching consideration.

Earlier this month, Kingsbury expressed interest in becoming a head coach again. However, he loves being in Washington and will remain with the Commanders for at least one more season.

“This has been an awesome place and has really helped me rekindle my love for the sport,” Kingsbury said.

Kingsbury was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 2022. Kingsbury’s best season came in 2021 when the Cardinals reached the postseason with an 11-6 record. Arizona lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card Round.

Kingsbury is still getting paid his salary from the Arizona Cardinals. Kingsbury was fired one year after signing a multi-year extension in 2022.

After working at USC for one season, Kingsbury became the Commanders’ offensive coordinator before the start of the 2024 season.

Staying with quarterback Jayden Daniels is one of the reasons why Kingsbury will remain in Washington. Daniels, the favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year, led the Commanders to the NFC Championship, their first since the 1991 season.

Who Will Be The Next Head Coach Of The New Orleans Saints?

The Saints are the last team without a head coach.

The list of Saints’ coaching candidates includes Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

All three candidates were interviewed twice, with one being an in-person meeting.

Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is rumored to be a candidate, but he has yet to interview for the job.

Kingsbury is not the only name to pull out of consideration for the Saints’ head coaching vacancy. Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady chose to remain in Buffalo, while former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn took the head job with the New York Jets.
