Kliff Kingsbury, fired by the Arizona Cardinals after their 4-13 2022 season, could be back in the NFL this year.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Kingsbury was in Houston on Friday interviewing for the Houston Texans’ vacant offensive coordinator position.
Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans is the Texans’ new head coach.
If Kingsbury were to get the job, it would give Ryans and the Texans two coordinators from the Cardinals.
Matt Burke, who was the Cardinals’ defensive line coach in 2022, is expected to be the Texans’ defensive coordinator.
Kingsbury, following his firing, went to Thailand to take some time off. He initially told teams he was not interested in interviewing for OC jobs. But after some reflection, he knew he wanted to get back into coaching in the NFL but didn’t know whether to wait a year.
It appears that he is interested in returning now.
The Texans have the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft and are expected to select a quarterback. Kingsbury would again be able to work with and develop a young, talented quarterback like he did with Kyler Murray from 2019-2022.
