Kleberson praises two Manchester United players

Former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson believes that Casemiro's pedigree before moving to Old Trafford stands him in good stead to become a leader at the club.

Before moving to the North West, Casemiro had already won five Champions Leagues, three La Ligas, three Club World Cups and a Copa America. His ability to win the major prizes in world football have helped him to adapt quickly at United since his summer transfer.

The defensive midfielder has made 35 appearances for United so far this campaign and some have tipped him to be the next permanent captain of the club if Harry Maguire leaves and Bruno Fernandes does not take on the duty instead. Speaking to The Athletic before the defeat by Liverpool, Kleberson praised his compatriot.

Kleberson said: "Casemiro is leadership, no? This is why he played for so many years with Brazil’s national team and had such a great career with Real Madrid.

"He controls the game, he controls the players. He’s really a key player and he always has everyone’s respect because of all the titles he has won."

A fellow midfielder who has enjoyed a resurgence at Old Trafford under Ten Hag is Casemiro's international teammate Fred. The 30-year-old had to endure a spell out of the team when the Dutchman first arrived in Manchester but has since established himself as a key component for United.

On the central midfielder, Kleberson added: "In the beginning, it was really difficult for him. There was a lot of transition. New coaches and new players arrived and left. One game Fred was playing deep, then sometimes higher. Now, he is doing well; I think he’s a big boy now."
