Klay Thompson hasn’t experienced the easiest start to the season. He has been working his way through an offensive slump since the season began. However, Thompson has flashed signs of getting back to his best in recent weeks, yet those signs haven’t helped the Golden State Warriors avoid a current three-game losing streak.
Nevertheless, Thompson’s struggles were back with a vengeance during the Warriors loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday (Dec. 30,) scoring just three points on 9.1% shooting from the field while only grabbing two rebounds. He is also staring down the barrel of free agency. The veteran was unable to agree terms on a contract extension with the front office during the summer and will now become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the current season unless an extension is signed before then.
On Saturday (Dec. 30,) Thompson posted an image to his Instagram Story with the caption “It’s just me against the world,” followed by “The type a energy I’m on all season.” Thompson’s post came shortly after his difficult night against the Mavericks. As such, the message is a clear indication that he’s betting on himself to reach a high level of production as the season continues to progress.
Thompson has been a major part of the Warriors championship-winning core over the past decade. He’s more than capable of reaching another level in terms of production. Golden State will likely look to retain his services beyond the current season. Still, that shouldn’t stop him from using his current struggles as a motivational tool to help the team get back on track.
