It was just over three years ago when Steph Curry passed Ray Allen on the NBA all-time 3-point list. But thanks to a major shift in how basketball is played over the past decade, more and more players are creeping up the list, including Curry’s longtime teammate Klay Thompson.
Klay Thompson Set To Move Into 5th Place On NBA 3-Point List
Thompson made his mark in the league as a member of the Golden State Warriors. His 2,481 3-pointers that he amassed during his first 11 years in the league shot him all the way up to 6th on the all-time list, recently having passed guys like Kyle Korver and Vince Carter. He has added 68 long balls so far in his first season with the Dallas Mavericks, which has him just 9 behind Reggie Miller for 5th all-time.
If Thompson keeps at his current pace of 3.1 3-pointers made per game, then he’ll pass Miller on Christmas Day when the Mavericks take on the Timberwolves.
Since Curry moved into first place back in December 2021, other players have moved past Allen and Miller. James Harden is the only player besides Curry in NBA history to amass more than 3,000 3-pointers in a career, and Damian Lillard should enter that club at some point early next season. Thompson is currently in 6th place, and LeBron James is 90 makes behind him.
Steph’s reaction to finding out Klay is close to passing Reggie Miller for 5th on the All-Time 3-pointer list:
“Hold on. You said fifth?… It’s crazy because I passed Reggie three years ago and he was second and now he’s fifth.” 😅 pic.twitter.com/kzyxYgG1Ao

The amount of players that are moving up the list is impressive, even to the players themselves. In his post-game press conference on Sunday night, Curry was alerted to the fact that Thompson would be passing Miller’s numbers and moving into 5th place in the near future. The all-time leader was confused, wondering why Thompson wouldn’t be moving into 4th place in NBA history. A reporter alerted him that Lillard had already passed Miller as well, which took Curry by surprise.
A bit further down the list, Paul George is just four 3’s away from passing Jason Terry and moving into 10th place. Kyle Lowry needs 28 more to move into 12th. Some of the names might be surprising, too, with Buddy Hield ranking 17th, and CJ McCollum is currently 23rd.
