Kitten infested with maggots found dumped in bin bag near Scots rail line

A cat infested with maggots has been found dumped in a bin bag by a Scots rail line.

A member of the public stumbled across the black kitten abandoned next to a disused railway line in the village of Newmilns, East Ayrshire on Friday, September 16.

Scottish SPCA were quickly alerted to the horrifying discovery and upon arriving at the scene, found the 10-week-old animal to be extremely gaunt and suffering from severe anaemia.

He also had a high flea infestation and was covered in maggot eggs. The shocking incident has prompted the animal welfare charity to ask anyone with any details on how the sorry event transpired to come forward.

An investigation into establishing the exact circumstances surrounding the sad find has also been launched. Scottish SPCA inspector McIntyre, said, “This male kitten was found abandoned in a black bin bag, and is approximately 10 weeks old.

“He is very thin and has severe anaemia. He also had a high flea infestation and was covered in maggot eggs when he was found.

“Unfortunately this kitten is not microchipped, and was not wearing a collar when he was found. We understand that vet bills can cause worry, but this is not the way to give up an animal.

“If anyone recognises this kitten or has any information about this incident, we would ask that they contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
