KITAKYUSHU -- A fire broke out near Tanga Market in Kitakyushu on Wednesday night, burning an area of about 2,000 square meters.
The blaze was brought under control at about 7 p.m. on Thursday, some 22 hours after starting around 8:55 p.m. the previous day.
According to the city's fire department and Kokurakita Police Station, a call was received from a restaurant near the market saying tempura oil had caught fire. The conflagration spread to multiple buildings, including the market. No one was injured.
In April, another fire hit the market area, causing damage to 42 shops and burning 1,924 square meters.
